Jennifer Mattern has published a great article on When to Turn Down Freelance Writing Jobs. She says:

It can be hard to turn down writing jobs, especially if you really need the money. But that’s life in freelance writing. Chances are that you’re going to struggle early on. It’s how to choose to get past that phase that will determine your success or failure as a professional writer.

A lot of us are facing that issue right now. As others have said, it’s worth considering the cost to you as well as the potential earnings when determining the value of each assignment.
