The Writer That Roared

One of my blogging friends, Familyfunandfaith, has honored me with a ROAR award. Thanks, FFF. All I have to do is give three writing tips and name five more bloggers that deserve the award. So here are my tips:roaraward

1. The only way to get good at writing is to write. Practice makes perfect, so the more you write, the more you develop your writing skills and the easier it becomes. It may not help you write the last of a batch of 100 keyword articles, but it will certainly help you with the first 50 or so. :)

2. The best cure for boredom is experimentation. Don’t be afraid to try something new in writing. If it’s a topic you don’t know about, then you can do some research. If it’s a genre you’re not so comfortable with, then you can get some tips from the experts. So don’t stick to keyword articles alone. If the circumstances are right, try your hand at ebooks, press releases and sales letters. Do a sample and get it critiqued by someone who knows the type of writing. You’ll learn something and will add another skill to your portfolio.

3. Proofread your work. If you’re sending work to a client, check rigorously for mistakes before you submit it. Make sure that it’s written in the right language – there’s no point in sending US spelling to a UK client. Even if you’ve submitted it and catch a mistake, take the initiative and send a revised version to the client. The fact that you made a mistake will be less important than that you took action to avoid letting your mistake embarrass the client.

Now for some worthy recipients:

  • Mitchell Allen, who writes excellently on just about any topic.
  • Dana Prince, who offers clear advice for new writers
  • Rebecca Laffar-Smith, one of the favorite writing personalities I’ve met recently
  • James Chartrand, who offers no nonsense advice on managing your writing career
  • gracepub, who writes knowledgeably on writing and publishing
