Although it started small, and there were very few opportunities, it has provided a steady, if tiny, income stream for the past year or so. One of the reasons why I like Blogsvertise is because their system makes it very easy.

First, you get an email with details of the links required. You need to do a post of two to three paragraphs with three links. Any client requests are included in the email. It also includes a link to click on when you have completed your post, and you can do that without logging into your account.

You have about five days to complete the post, then you get an automatic email reminder if you haven’t done it. You can also log into your account and turn down any offers you don’t feel comfortable with.

Blogsvertise appears to accept most blogs and although you won’t get huge numbers of offers, you’ll probably get enough to suit most people. This week I’ve had three, which is a good week. Payment per post varies between $5 and $10.

I like Blogsvertise because there is no pressure to do more offers than you can handle, or to blog about topics that don’t suit you. The emails work better for me than having to login and check to see if there is anything waiting. Payment is about a month after you do an offer, but they haven’t rejected any of my posts (I use Blogsvertise on four of my other blogs). In terms of ease of use, this is my top pick, though there are other areas where different paid to blog companies score better.

I signed up with Blogitive about 15 months ago and the honeymoon period was great. In the early stages, Blogitive would provide a link and you could write about anything you liked as long as you included the link at some point. I wrote some poetry and satire inspired by the sponsored links and it was fun. The fact that I got paid $5 a link was a bonus. That was the good bit. They had plenty of opportunities and I made hundreds before the bubble burst.

Then Blogitive started to change. First, you had to write your post based on a web release – less creativity. Then you had to write two short posts in between each sponsored one, which was still worth the same $5. In my opinion, that was the bad, because with the number of blogs I had, having to write four posts to earn from two Blogitive posts was hard work. That’s only my view, though; lots of my friends still use Blogitive and are very happy.

And now for the ugly. Once they had a few more bloggers on board, they got choosy about which blogs they would accept. That I don’t mind (up to a point). What annoyed me is the way they did it. One day I logged in to find that four of my blogs had been booted. They were only accepting self hosted blogs and no blogs on blogging communities. They actually booted one of my self hosted blogs by mistake. I added it again, they booted it again, and I have decided just to let it go.

They have also set up a number of new services, such as directory listings for your blog. Apparently my Writing Lab blog doesn’t make the cut, but no one has told me why. I still have a Blogitive account, but with one blog there, it’s just not worth it anymore.

Blogitive was a great place to get started with paid posting, but there are many others who now do it better. If you have self hosted blogs and don’t mind cutting and pasting to meet the two posts between each post rule, then it might be right for you. The money can add up pretty quickly. However, watch this space. I’ll be telling you about some of the other sources that I use – and many of them are much more blogger friendly.

That’s all they do – blog and promote, blog and promote, blog and promote. I have to say the idea has begun to appeal to me, as long as I can write other things as well. Using social bookmarking, Blogitive and other promotional tools are a good start, but there’s much more to problogging than that.

If you want to know how to become a professional blogger, you should visit Darren Rowse’s problogging site every day. This week he’s published his A-Z of Professional Blogging. This is a list of tools and sites to help bloggers. Even if you don’t want to turn pro, you can learn something helpful here. I get a new tip every time I go to the site. The A-Z of Professional Blogging has so many links that just following those will give a mini-course in blogging. Check it out.
