Do you know how to switch off?

Switching Off

A couple of weeks ago, I asked if you knew how to switch off. I said that I was heading off for a week without work. Dear readers, I did it – more or less. The time I had spent on preparing clients and future posting blog work really paid off, so all I had to do was check to see if everything had happened when it should have. I spent ten minutes a day getting rid of stuff I didn’t need from my inbox, and other than that had a relaxing time. I felt much refreshed at the end of it. I learned that it IS possible to switch off. Next step: travelling without a laptop. Maybe one day I’ll manage that. :)

I know what you mean. Increasingly I find it hard to switch off from writing. And I can't even think of traveling without my laptop! For so many of us, writing is our passion and it becomes compulsive; however, your remarks about taking a much-needed break are well-taken. Recharging means that we can do more of what we love: writing!

Yup – and we do need to recharge otherwise that compulsion just isn't as much fun any more.

Good for you, Sharon! I’m glad you were able to switch off during your vacation and hope it was wonderful.

It was great, thanks, Lillie. I think I should try switching off more often.

I can definitely get away from the computer, but I must have pen and paper and something to read: this is true wherever I travel. Part of "switching off" for me is the ability to just enjoy the environment, sure, and I can do that for hours and days. But every evening I'll get the urge to investigate some small aspect of the day, and then I'll want the right words and a place to put them.

Glad you got the relaxation you needed.

Reading is one way that I switch off, too, Ashok. And it's useful to be able to note down thoughts as they come to you.

Great Job!! Congrats! I think I'm almost at the "without a laptop" stage – whoop whooop!!!

It's fun to "Switch off" once in a while. Whenever I do that I realize that I need to change elements about my business plan. Typically I need a break when I feel things are going in a different direction than what they need to go in. Glad you had a nice break. :)
