Every week I get emails from people asking me how they can get paid to write online. Perhaps the name of the site has something to do with that.
After all, I do promise to offer advice on building a successful freelance writing career. And it may be that with 650+ posts on the site spanning five years, some people get lost and don’t know where to begin.
With that in mind, I plan to create an occasional post, aimed at collecting the site’s best advice on different topics (like the promotion one I did last year). The listing won’t be exhaustive, but it will cover some of the key issues which writers face. This first collection is aimed at new writers:

This is a really great idea, Sharon.
It’s simple, but I love the fact that the posts are all grouped under individual headings.
I remember when I was first starting out I used to read as much as I could and often found something a few months later that would have been of use earlier if I’d slowed down and hadn’t skimmed over it.
Having a post like this ensures that unless you’re really in a rush, you’re unlikely to skim over anything that could be valuable to you as a new freelance writer.
Thanks, Dan. I hope that doing this occasionally will make it easier for people to find what they need. Once I’ve done a few, I’ll include a list of these start pages somewhere in the sidebar.
Great list! This will definitely help me (and all freelance writers) along my writing journey.
The main thing I’m struggling with (for now) is building my online portfolio, so I’ll pay extra attention to those sections.
And let me know if there’s anything you want to know that’s not covered there, Christina. I may be able to write about it in another post.
