My Writing Portfolio – A New Approach

Sharon-laptopI’m always looking for new ways to present my writing portfolio. Today, I spent some time in Google Docs using their presentation tools to put together a brief introduction to my writing work. I then uploaded it to Slideshare to create a video slideshow. I also had some help from my six year old, who’s responsible for the location of my head shot in the first slide. (See, there are lots of advantages to working at home :) ). This is a work in progess. I still need to add music to it and experiment with transitions, but I’m happy with the first effort. Feedback and suggestions for other tools are welcome.

Oh, the challenge of a writing portfolio! This is a really interesting idea–I hadn’t considered something as user-friendly as a slide show. Maybe I’ll have to investigate Google docs further…

A lot of people have said how easy it is to use, Liz, so I decided to give it a try for this project. It’s worked very well.

Sharon,

Very nice. Unique and I really think it does showcase your talents.

I was thinking it would be nice if there were a way to incorporate audio somehow, but it’s still good as it stands.

Cheers!

Credit where credit is due, George; your recent slide post inspired me to do this. I’d already thought of doing a PDF, so moving to this seemed a good step. I agree about the audio, but I need to delve into Creative Commons music stuff before choosing something.

This is a good idea! It just occurred to me (and shame on me) that I don’t actually have a fixed writing portfolio.

I’ve found it handy to be able to show people what I do in one place, Katherine. Making it more visual is an experiment, but one that I hope will pay off.

I LOVE the idea of a slide show for a writing portfolio! Right now I have my samples on my website, but I’ve been meaning to try out Slideshare, and this seems like the perfect excuse. Thanks for a great idea!

Thanks, Natalia, Sue.

I thought about this idea some time ago, but it took a while to realise it. I’m happy with the results and plan to use slideshare more in the future.

Thanks, Sue and Angela. I’m pleased with how this has turned out, and plan a couple more presentations in the near future.

Oh wow, this is awesome, Sharon. Thanks for sharing. I’ll have a look at Slideshare and perhaps come up with my own portfolio in presentation format, too. Hope you don’t mind if I check back in here for questions. Thank you!
