  1. Hi Sharon,

I’ve see mentoring services and I’ve seen folks post about them on forums but I’ve never seen anyone put it all together as you’ve done here.

If someone is looking for some assistance with their writing, they should start here.

    Really nice job.

I would like to find a mentor. I’m trying to set up a home-based technical writing business that I can work on during weekends.

I have approached one or two people here and there. Seems everyone has their hands full trying to stay afloat themselves. I don’t blame them. Any advice for finding a mentor in an economic climate such as this?

I have a website, but it is a bit rough. I’ll be happy to list it when it looks better.

  3. Thanks, George. I had a long think about the ideal mentoring relationship and that’s what I’ve tried to put here.

  4. Just keep looking, Craig. Even the people with their hands full have something to teach you. And if you don’t find someone that works for you, you know where I am. ;)

  5. Thanks Sharon, spot-on post.

For me this post is very relevant, there is a whole new world to contend with, when moving into the professional side of writing.
It is no longer just your writing that needs perfecting but also knowledge on so many other commercial aspects.

I for one can waste far too many hours browsing the net looking for “How To” information and I know already that in some cases I have placed the cart before the horse. The result of which is wasted time and wasted opportunities.

For me a mentor would not only be able to see my weaknesses and guide me where to concentrate, but also layout where to focus and in the best order.

At the moment money is negative, but later as you said to Craig, I know where you are.

  6. Hi, Sharon,

If you wouldn’t mind taking a look at my website, here it is: http://www.cardimon-communications.com.

It needs work, but I would appreciate any comments.

  7. And in the meantime, Andy, I’m at the end of an email :)
