Are You Meeting Your Goals?

I always think that it’s timely to review your career goals occasionally and see which goals still make sense and which need to be updated or discarded. Best of all is seeing which goals you’ve achieved.  Before that, though, you have to learn to set goals for your career. These goals may have to do with an amount that you want to earn or an amount that you want to write each day.

My goals this year were to earn more than I did from freelance writing last year (check); to work more with other writers (check); to help other writers freelance successfully (check) and to finish a new book (errrm, still working on that one).  How have you met your goals for your freelance writing career?

I usually meet my goals. It is funny that, when you have more work, you are tired, and fail to meet goals. I try not to ‘burn out’ but it happens.

I keep a list of goals, and when I reach them – weekly and monthly. It prevents me from feeling that I am working but not accomplishing anything – it also prevents me from ‘forgetting’ something.

Yes, having a written plan is a great way to keep track of your progress, gracepub. I keep a list by my desk to motivate me.
