These days you can often find me hanging around on Twitter. Part helpdesk, part virtual water cooler, it’s a great place to connect with people in the writing business – or just random strangers who have something interesting to say. However you feel about it, Twitter is currently an important part of having a web presence, so if you’re not there yet, perhaps it’s time to think about it. To get you started, here are the writers who are on my Twitter follow list.

Sharon, you are at the top of my list! I happen to love the writing community and am so appreciative that we have great networking tools to connect. Whether sharing writing tips, or just chatting I find great value in the writers I find. I follow many on your list and love finding writers by interest / genre/ industry on Just Tweet It. Ashley Ladd´s last blog post..Dieting Again – for real!
There are so many great writers on Twitter. Depending on your genre it’s amazing who you can follow.
If you have a favorite chances are you can put their name in the search box without a space and find them.
I’d love to include myself as I’m about to release my podcast novel, Guardians. I also run a podcast for urban fantasy readers and writers.

Thanks, Kimi. What’s your Twitter ID, just in case I don’t find it?
Howdy! Found you at the 31 Day BBB forum. I am running late and haven’t gotten a chance to go through all of your tweeters.
But I have a quick question: What are your thoughts on the split between return tweets and original tweets?
I prefer to read someone who is roughly 75% tweets and 25% return tweets. Unless I’m doing this wrong, I find it hard to follow a conversation someone else is having with a third person.
Example: Tweeter One replies to Tweeter Two: Hope the stitches from wrangling with that leopard heal quickly.
Now I’m heading over to Tweeter Two. What about this leopard? Is Tweeter Two a zoo worker? Did he/she go on safari? Is this a euphemism for something else?
So I go to Tweeter Two’s page. I can’t find the original reference that Tweeter One responded to.
For that reason I like to read random thoughts from someone because to me reading return tweets is like listening to someone who is on the telephone.
I’m only hearing one side of the conversation and most of the time it’s not that interesting.
Your thoughts please.

For me the issue is being able to follow the conversation. That’s where tools like Hootsuite, Tweetree and Filttr come in handy, because they make it easy for you to see what people are replying to, something that’s lacking in the main Twitter interface. I often find that seeing someone’s reply can be just as inspiring as an original tweet, so I’m not sure it matters that much to me.

Sharon, I just found this post – somehow I missed it when you first posted it! Thank you for mentioning me – it means a lot, especially since I’ve just made the decision to not only be a writer but Be A Writer.

Good luck, Chris. It’s a big decision, but I must say I can’t think of anything I’d rather be.
Well, apart from following me and all my writing palava (Twittername: sarasheridan) I enjoy Alain De Botton (alaindebotton) and Ewan Morrison (sonofmore)
I would be very pleased if you would also follow me @susannemoore I am currently writing two blogs, one on travelling through bankruptcy and one on raising children the commonsense way. I am just starting out as a writer after changing careers, but have already written a number of whitepapers for speaking engagements in the corporate world around project management, outsourcing and governance.
Great post — thanks. I’m always looking for interesting people to follow on Twitter.
I’d love it if you would follow me @BudBilanich.
Also, I write a blog on life and career success. I post five days a week. Check it out at http://www.BudBilanich.com
